For Libertarians...
Government exists only to perform those functions that aren't feasible for the marketplace. These include things like defense from foreign invasion, establishment of a legal framework to allow the market to function, and to provide a mechanism to allocate use of common property (i.e. to prevent the tragedy of the commons). As we go from federal to state to local, the legitimate purpose of government grows -- it's perfectly reasonable for a city to have zoning restrictions that designate a parcel of land as commercial or residential, but it isn't even the federal government's place to regulate commerce, if it isn't interstate. I offer you this handful of reasons I make an excellent candidate for Congress:
- I am young enough to have to deal with the long term consequences of whatever laws I pass.
- I served honorably for four years in the United States Marine Corps, and am a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
- I am a native Californian, educated at the University of California, Berkeley.
- I haven't smoked pot since college, and haven't had a speeding ticket since I was 18.
- I am a credible candidate. I'm not running on "kook" issues like domestic ferrets. I will run an inclusive campaign to bring in all those who favor reducing the size of government across the board.
